New Advances in Heart Failure

Edited by Guest Editor Dr Giuseppe Galati, I.R.C.C.S. Maugeri - Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Scientific, Care and Research Institute

Heart failure (HF) is the first cause of hospitalization across the globe, with a rising prevalence and incidence affecting more than 64 million people worldwide. This ominous syndrome is characterized by a high rate of mortality (higher than many solid cancers in both sexes), a high rate of hospitalizations, and a poor quality of life.

This brief collection focuses on new advances in heart failure and especially on the new contribution to the diagnosis and characterization of HF provided by new imaging tools, and on recent developments in the therapy and management of cardiomyopathies in particular cardiac amyloidosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Fabry (or Anderson-Fabry) disease. Finally, two dedicated articles focus on the new management and therapy of both HFpEF and HFrEF, with special attention to the new advances in pharmacological therapy that demonstrated reduced morbidity and mortality in HF. A final manuscript proposes a possible restaging of HF based on the concept and detection of subclinical congestion.
