Biography

Prof Ottavio Alfieri is Senior Consultant at the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit of San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, IT. He is the President of the "Alfieri Heart Foundation," established to support research and innovation at San Raffaele Hospital. From 1996 to 2017, he served as the Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and held the position of Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.

His primary focus is on the surgical treatment of heart valve diseases, with particular expertise in mitral valve repair.

In 2011, he served as the President of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS). In 2012, he chaired the task force responsible for the European Guidelines on the treatment of heart valve diseases and served as the Review Coordinator for these guidelines in 2017. In 2018, he received the gold medal from the European Society of Cardiology in recognition of his scientific contributions to the field of cardiology. He is a member of ESC, EACTS , AATS, and STS.
